Hospitality found me.

James Mazzuto founded ZOO Hospitality after two decades in management and an unexpected turn into restaurants that became the work he wanted to keep doing.
Today his work spans operations, teams, service, food and beverage, programming, systems, and the details that make a room feel alive.

Back home.
All in.

James grew up in northern New Jersey, then spent years working in management and building organizations across different industries. When he returned home, hospitality was not the expected destination.

But the combination of people, pace, service, food, problem-solving, and the immediate feedback of a dining room clicked quickly. In his words, it was “scratching an itch that I didn’t know that I had.”

That experience became the foundation for ZOO Hospitality: an operating platform built around the belief that strong hospitality requires both genuine care and disciplined execution.

“You can train anybody to make a cocktail or cook a dish… But what you can’t train is the care, the passion, and the compassion for our guests.”

Operator first.

James works close to both the guest experience and the system underneath it—building teams, strengthening operating rhythm, shaping concepts, solving day-to-day problems, and creating the structure that lets hospitality feel personal rather than processed.
OperationsStaffing, training, service standards, vendors, reporting, systems, maintenance, and execution.
Concept & ExperienceFood and beverage, programming, events, positioning, music, atmosphere, and guest touchpoints.
Current WorkAllendale Social, Charlie’s Place, and Saku in Hoboken.
Point of ViewHigh standards should make the experience feel easier and warmer—not more formal.

“Take those small wins and make sure you’re always making progress every day.”James Mazzuto • Liftoff Journeys
